Welcome to the summer 2022 season! First week updates
Hey Sharx families,
Welcome to the team! We’re thrilled to have so many new families and swimmers joining the Sharx this year. Don’t hesitate to introduce yourself to the coaches! Learn more about our 2022 staff here. We’re hope you’re ready for a fun and exciting summer swim season.
I will be sending out emails each Monday to recap the previous week, provide you with updates about the upcoming meets and practices, and highlighting some swimmers each week who have been doing an exceptional job as athletes and teammates!
This coming weekend, we have Time Trials (Saturday 6/11). Please commit your swimmers as soon as possible - go into SwimTopia and select attend/decline.The deadline is Thursday 6/9. If your swimmer is available to only come for a certain period of time due to other commitments, that’s fine! You can still select “attend’ and put this in a note to me. I will select the events I think they will be able to swim in that timeframe.
The goal of this first ‘practice’ meet is to have as many swim team members as possible swim all the events (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.) 11 and up’s will swim the Individual Medley as well. If you’ve new to summer swimming, here is an overview of Summer Meets 101.
The 8& unders will be doing freestyle and backstroke at Time Trials. The coaches will decide what other events (breast and or fly) they will try at Time Trials IF any (depending on stroke legality that we have seen at practice). The goal is that we will get the entire team legal in all 4 strokes as soon as possible in the season.
I will be sending out a separate email with details on how to sign up for individual private lessons with the coaches and group lessons for younger swimmers who are not yet ready for pre-team and swim team.
Looking ahead to next week: Wednesday the 15th is our first B meet, Saturday the 18th our first A meet. At this first Wednesday meet, everyone can swim everything. The lineup for the A meet will be determined from the top times from this weekend and the first Wednesday meet.
See you at practice! I will send out the final lineup and reminders for Time Trials on Friday.
